Arthrosamid®

Move Freely, Live Fully

Long-lasting, proven pain relief for osteoarthritis – without surgery.

What is Arthrosamid®?

Arthrosamid® is an innovative injectable hydrogel designed to provide long-lasting relief from knee osteoarthritis pain. This non-surgical treatment improves mobility and enhances quality of life, allowing you to stay active without undergoing surgery.

Administered through a simple, one-step injection under local anaesthesia, Arthrosamid® is performed by one of the Sozo Consultant specialists normally under ultrasound guidance. You can expect to be in and out of the clinic within an hour, making it a convenient and effective option for knee pain relief.

How Does Arthrosamid® Work?

Once injected into the knee’s synovial cavity, Arthrosamid® integrates with the synovial tissue, enhancing joint lubrication and cushioning. This helps to reduce inflammation and pain, promoting long-term comfort and mobility.

The Arthrosamid® Treatment Process

  • Preparation: You will be given a dose of antibiotics prior to the procedure. At Sozo Clinic, your knee will be cleaned, and local anaesthetic given to numb the area.
  • Injection: A single dose of Arthrosamid® is injected into the knee joint, sometimes with ultrasound guidance for accuracy.
  • Completion: The needle is removed, and a small plaster is applied over the injection site.

What to Expect After Treatment

  • Most patients can leave the clinic immediately after the procedure.
  • Some mild discomfort may occur as the anaesthetic wears off, though many patients report minimal pain.
  • Temporary swelling or mild joint pain may be experienced for a few days to weeks.
  • If you notice significant redness, heat, swelling, or worsening pain, you MUST contact us immediately.
  • Continue your regular medication and pain relief as advised by your clinician.

The Sozo Arthrosamid® Technique

A simple, non-surgical treatment for knee osteoarthritis.

Arthrosamid® is a non-biodegradable hydrogel that’s injected directly into the knee to relieve pain from osteoarthritis. It works by cushioning the joint and improving lubrication — often with long-lasting results after just one treatment.

Here’s what to expect at Sozo Clinic:

Initial Consultation

You’ll meet with a Sozo clinician who specialises in joint and musculoskeletal care. We will:

  • Review your symptoms and medical history
  • Arrange or Review any imaging tests (e.g. X-rays or MRI)
  • Confirm the diagnosis (usually knee osteoarthritis)
  • Answer your questions and discuss whether Arthrosamid is right for you
  • If you’re suitable, we’ll book you in for the procedure — often within a few days.

Before the Injection

On the day of your appointment:

  • You can eat and drink normally (no fasting required)
  • Wear loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to your knee
  • We’ll explain the procedure again and ask you to sign a consent form
  • You’ll lie comfortably with your knee supported in a clean-air minor op room

Ultrasound-Guided Aspiration & Injection

If there is fluid in your knee joint, we remove it using a fine needle. This makes space for the Arthrosamid®.

  • Local anaesthetic is used to keep you comfortable
  • We inject 6ml of Arthrosamid hydrogel directly into the knee
  • The injection takes just a few minutes
  • Most people feel only mild discomfort or pressure

Recovery & Aftercare

You’ll be able to go home shortly after your injection. We recommend:

  • Taking it easy for 24–48 hours
  • Avoiding strenuous activity (e.g. running, heavy lifting) for a few days
  • Using simple pain relief if needed (though most people don’t require it)
  • There’s no need for crutches, dressings, or physiotherapy unless advised.

Results & Follow-Up

  • Some people feel an improvement within a few days, but most notice benefits within 4–12 weeks as the hydrogel settles and starts to work.
  • Benefits can last over 12 months or more, with many patients reporting reduced pain and improved mobility after just one injection.
  • We’ll check in with you post-treatment and are always available if you have questions or concerns.
